President Donald Trump threatened Tuesday with retaining federal funds to California because a transgender athlete “won everything” in a recent competition.
The president did not share his name or in which sport they competed.
“This week, a male transition athlete, in an important event, won ‘everything’, and is now qualified to compete in the ‘state finals’ next weekend. As a man, he was a competitor less than the average. As a woman, this transicated person is practically unbeatable. This is not fair and totally degrading for women and girls,” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
Trump said federal financing on a large scale “will be delayed,” perhaps permanently “, if the State allows the athlete to continue competing in women’s sports.

“I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, that does not allow the transition person to compete in the state finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation,” Trump wrote.
